ce+ : 22474 camack
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: November 6, 1997
RE: Representative to Serve on Design Committee for Gervais Bridge
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Ramsey County will be reconstructing the bridge over the channel between Spoon Lake and
Lake Gervais. They have retained Public Art St. Paul to assist them in developing design
concepts for this bridge. An artist will be utilized to come up with a design based on the
function, character, and environment of the bridge within our area. A panel will be appointed to
assist the artist with this task. There will be representatives from Maplewood, Ramsey County,
and other affected parties. They have asked for us to designate a representative as well.
The person filling this appointment is expected to meet four times over the next few months.
This will be a voluntary position. They would like to see someone with an objective background
who is able to visualize new design concepts.
This appointment needs to be made within the next week. At this time, I have no one
specifically to recommend and I am asking Mayor Fahey to take charge of this process. Should
any member of the Council have input as to who you think can best serve in this capacity, please
forward this information on to Mayor Fahey for his recommendation at Wednesday's meeting.
JRH:kpv
Page 51
