The use of plastic panel signs (backlit) should be discouraged.
Signs should be aesthetically compatible with both the area and the building they
serve.
The proposed use of vinyl materials for the proposed canopies can be considered to be
less consistent with the Architectural Guidelines, that is not as desirable as canvas or
metal awnings. Further, the application of the vinyl is used to accommodate the proposed
backlit signs on two of the building facades. As these backlit signs would be similar in
character to plastic panel signs, they are contrary to the intent of the Architectural
Guidelines, as well as the specific policies above.
For these reasons, our office considers the proposed canopy designs to be inappropriate.
Our office would recommend that the applicant be required to provide canopies made of
canvas or metal materials, which do not include the backlit signage elements.
Attached For Reference:
Exhibit A: Proposed Building Elevations
pc.
