Date: September 22, 1997
To: Commander John Luey (RCS)
Joel Hanson (L /C Administrator)
From: Joe Paget (RCS Traffic Deputy)
I was able to review the intersection and surrounding area of Allen & Desoto Street in Little
Canada as you requested.
The area west of Desoto on Allen appears to be headed for residential development. Therefore, I
believe the extension of Allen Ave. to the west would have some of the same concerns as Labore
Road (just to the south of Allen) between Edgerton & Centerville. There is currently a four way
stop on Labore Road at Desoto.
If I'm interpreting your questions and concerns correctly, I would recommend a three way stop at
Allen and Desoto. The stop signs would be at the following intersections: westbound Allen,
eastbound Allen, and northbound Desoto. It doesn't appear that the driveway north of Allen and
Desoto generates enough activity to warrant the fourth stop sign at this intersection.
I spoke with the deputies that work exclusively in the Little Canada area (Keith Olson & Tom
Rudenick) and asked them to review the intersection at Allen & Desoto. Deputies' Olson &
Rudenick expressed concerns of an uncontrolled intersection at Desoto & Allen during rush hour
traffic. The deputies each responded with the recommendation of a three -way stop at the
intersection of Desoto & Allen.
If you have any additional questions or concerns about this intersection or any other area in your
city, please contact me at 688 -7458. Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention.
AVE.
/CENTERVILLE
LABORE
ELI
RD
COSTA
LA. N.
