MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 28, 1995
Street to access the skating rink on Demont. Bruce
felt it was important to go through the winter before
evaluating the stop sign issue. Bruce questioned the
accuracy of accident information that would be provided
by the Sheriff's Department pointing out that a child
was hit by a car on Jackson Street last year. That
accident did not show up in any reports provided by the
Sheriff's Department.
Fahey felt that the information must be persuasive to
warrant removal of the stop sign. However, the City
owes it to the property owners in the area to re-
evaluate the stop sign to make sure that its
installation was correct.
Morelan pointed out that it always was the Council's
plan to revisit the decision.
Scalze suggested that in addition to the stop sign,
perhaps crosswalks or trail crossing signage should be
added to the intersection.
Harold Feickert, Jackson Street resident, reported that
the stop sign was installed after a June, 1994 Council
meeting. Feickert stated that he would like to see the
sign remain for the winter, and the Council re- evaluate
the matter in April, 1996. Feickert reported that the
stop sign has not resulted in a decreased traffic count
along Jackson Street. Feickert reported that there are
many children who get off the school bus at Rose Place.
Feickert stated that the property owners in the area do
not want any children getting hurt on Jackson Street.
Al Engebretson, Old County Road C resident, stated that
he would like to see a stop sign at the corner of Old
County Road C and Lakeshore Avenue.
It was the consensus of the Council to revisit the
issue in April of 1996.
RECESS At this point in the meeting, 8:40 P.M., Council took a
short recess. The meeting was reconvened at 8:45 P.M.
LEGISLATIVE Senator John Marty appeared before the Council to
MATTERS provide an update on the 1994 Legislative Session.
Marty reported on the Legislature's discussions on the
issue of property tax reform and indicated that while
the Legislature agrees there is the need for reform,
Legislators have different ideas of what that reform
13
Page 8
