515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: June 6, 1996
RE: City Hall ID Sign
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaVaile
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you will recall, we received quotations for the construction
of a new identification sign to serve City Hall. The low price
received for the work on the sign as designed by Bill Sanders was
$11,500. Since then, we have been able to make some revisions
which could have a significant impact on the sign's cost. Some
of the changes are as follows:
* Frattalone Excavating has indicated a willingness to
donate equipment necessary to excavate the site to
accommodate the footings for the sign.
* Public Works staff could construct the footings.
A contractor has been found who would construct the
block and brick portion of the sign at a labor only
cost of $500.
* Price for the sign as originally bid (two- sided) was
$5,475 plus tax. The modified two -sided sign would be
$4,600 and the revised one -sided sign is $3,075.
* I am obtaining prices for block and brick materials for
the sign. They should be available at Monday's
meeting.
* I am also obtaining a price to find another contractor
who will set the pre -cast portions of the sign.
A single -sided sign could be utilized if placed at approximately
45° angle to Little Canada Road and Noel Drive. The concern with
this placement is the manner in which it lines up with the corner
of the building and the existing flagpoles. Also, the lettering
of the sign would not be visible for west bound traffic on Little
Canada Road. A two -sided sign could be placed perpendicular to
Little Canada Road which would be visible for traffic from both
Page 34
