SECTION 13 - LEAVES WITH PAY <br />Sick Leave <br />A. Sick leave is authorized absence from duty with pay, granted <br />to all permanent full -time and permanent part -time <br />employees. Sick leave is not a privilege for an employee to <br />use at his /her discretion, but shall be allowed only when <br />the employee is too sick to work, and under the conditions <br />explained below. <br />B. A permanent full -time employee shall accumulate sick leave <br />at a rate of one day per month. Sick leave may be <br />accumulated to a maximum of one hundred twenty (120) days. <br />C. Permanent part -time employees, working a minimum of 20 hours <br />per week on average projected over a calendar year based on <br />anticipated demands of the position, will accumulate sick <br />leave pro -rated based on actual hours worked in a month <br />applied against the rate of one day per month for a full - <br />time employee, rounded to the nearest hourly increment, not <br />to exceed the full -time accrual rate. <br />D. Temporary and seasonal employees (full -time and part -time) <br />shall not be entitled to sick leave. <br />E. Sick leave shall not be earned by any employee during a <br />leave of absence without pay, suspension, layoff or other <br />off - payroll status. <br />F. An employee who is entitled to the benefit of accrued sick <br />leave pursuant to this section and who is eligible to <br />receive worker's compensation payments shall be granted <br />accrued sick leave pay only in the amount of the difference <br />between the employee's regular salary and the worker's <br />compensation payments. <br />Employees who are absent from work and are being paid <br />workers compensation insurance benefits shall be considered <br />to be working for the purpose of accumulating additional <br />vacation leave or sick leave for up to three (3) months of <br />absence from work. No sick leave or vacation benefits will <br />be earned while receiving compensation payments for time <br />exceeding three (3) months. <br />G. Administration of Sick Leave. The following procedures will <br />be followed in administering the sick leave policy of the <br />City: <br />1. When an employee uses sick leave for an absence <br />exceeding three (3) days, a physician's statement may <br />be required on the first day of return to work, <br />indicating the nature of the sickness and attesting to <br />18 <br />Page 26 <br />
