Holidays <br />A. The City observes the following to be official holidays for <br />all permanent full -time and permanent part -time employees <br />working a minimum of 20 hours per week on average projected <br />over a calendar year based on anticipated demands of the <br />Position,: <br />New Year's Day; <br />Martin Luther King's Birthday, <br />The third Monday in January; <br />President's Day, the third <br />Monday in February; <br />Memorial Day, the last Monday in May; <br />Independence Day, July 4th; <br />Labor Day, the first Monday in <br />September; <br />Veterans' Day, November llth; <br />Thanksgiving Day, the fourth <br />Thursday in November; <br />Day after Thanksgiving Day; <br />Christmas Eve, December 24th *; <br />Christmas Day, December 25th. <br />*In years within which Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday or <br />Sunday, permanent full -time and permanent part -time <br />employees, working a minimum of 20 hours per week on average <br />projected over a calendar year based on anticipated demands <br />of the position, will be granted a floating holiday in lieu <br />of the Christmas Eve holiday. This floating holiday can be <br />used at the discretion of the employee within the calendar <br />year, subject to approval of the department head. <br />If an employee leaves the service of the City prior to <br />December 24th in a given year where a floating holiday is <br />granted, the floating holiday is considered unearned, and a <br />vacation day will be stubstituted if the floating holiday <br />has been used. If no vacation accrual exists, the payment <br />for this day would be deducted from the last paycheck. <br />Floating holidays can be carried over to the next calendar <br />year with approval by the City Administrator. <br />B. All official holidays shall be considered to commence at the <br />beginning of the first shift of the day on which the holiday <br />is observed and continue for twenty -four (24) hours <br />thereafter. <br />C. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall <br />be a holiday and when a holiday falls on a Saturday, the <br />preceding Friday shall be a holiday. Note the exception <br />outlined above for the Christmas Eve holiday in years within <br />which Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday or Sunday. <br />20 <br />Page 27 <br />
