Multi- Department Head Status <br />No City employee shall hold "department head" status in two or <br />more departments or organizations associated with the City of <br />Little Canada without prior approval by the City Council when <br />that organization's source of funding is derived in whole or part <br />from City resources. In evaluating a request for approval, the <br />Council's primary consideration shall be to ensure that the <br />city's best interests are served as they deem appropriate. <br />Continued service in dual department head status shall be subject <br />to annual review and approval by the City Council. Nothing <br />within this policy shall assure the affected employee that <br />initial or continued approval will be granted. This handbook and <br />this provision do not apply to Department Heads hired after July <br />12, 1995. <br />Educational Reimbursements <br />In order to develop further skills and self- improvement, the City <br />will provide financial assistance to all permanent full -time and <br />permanent part -time employees, working a minimum of 20 hours per <br />week on average projected over a calendar year based on <br />anticipated demands of the position, who continue formal study in <br />areas directly related to their present position. This includes <br />high school and accredited college diplomas. <br />1. Educational assistance will be made for tuition, <br />registration, and laboratory fees. Costs of books, <br />supplies, mileage, or other expenses will not be included. <br />2. Tuition refund will be made at the completion of the <br />approved course and will amount to 100% for a grade of C or <br />better. <br />a. Failure to receive a grade of C or better will nullify <br />any payment. <br />b. Reimbursement will not be made for courses not completed <br />or courses where payments are received by the employee <br />from another agency (i.e. GI Bill). <br />3. The program will apply to accredited colleges, technical <br />institutions, certain vocational institutions and other <br />specialized training programs. <br />4. Course must be taken other than during normal working hours. <br />5. An annual maximum tuition reimbursement of $1,000 per <br />employee, subject to budgetary limitations. <br />6. Application for educational assistance must be completed and <br />approved by the department head and the City Administrator <br />prior to taking the course.
