515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: March 20, 1996
RE: Approval of Proposed Design Layout for Old Fire Station
Renovation
Attached is correspondence and drawings received from Mr. Paul
Finsness, architect for the old fire station project. These
documents discuss the work scope and depict the renovations to be
made to the old fire station necessary to comply with various
code requirements. As you will note, the majority of the work
occurs in the lower level of the fire station with the major item
being the addition of a unisex rest room facility. No major
changes were needed in the kitchen area relative to equipment or
layout. The overall project budget of $98,500 is also on track.
This information has been discussed with Jim Morelan and with
representatives of the Little Canada Recreation Association. A
memo attached is discussing their position on this layout.
In order to keep Mr. Finsness progressing toward completion, the
Council should approve the design development layout and scope of
work; subject to any modifications you feel are appropriate.
Mr. Finsness will then prepare plans and specifications with the
goal of bidding this project in late April and having
construction completed by the end of July. If there are any
concerns you see with this project, please let me know in order
that I can have Mr. Finsness attempt to address them prior to
Wednesday's meeting.
JRH:kpv
Enclosures
cc: Paul Finsness
Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
John Keis, LCRA
Greg Schmit, Building Official
Page 87
