Mayor & City Council
February 9, 1996
Page 2
* The existing shelter in Spooner Park should be
relocated to the east end of Pioneer Park per the Park
& Recreation Commission's plans.
Construction should commence on these facilities after
the 1996 Canadian Days celebration. This would allow
the facilities to be constructed this year with proper
site restoration to take hold to enable usage for the
entire 1997 shelter season.
Fund - raising efforts should be vigorously pursued.
Currently, the City has $60,000 of its own money plus
$20,000 of Canadian Days' money to be used on the
shelter project. Based on a $120,000 projected budget,
$40,000 of additional funding is needed. Pledges for
this remaining funding should be raised as soon as
possible.
The Park & Recreation Commission should serve as the
principle planning group for this shelter to work in
conjunction with the architect. They should also
invite area neighbors into the planning process to
ensure that this new facility will not be viewed as
obtrusive.
* Proposals for architectural services should be obtained
as soon as possible.
The people present at this meeting seemed very excited with the
prospect of this upgraded shelter facility. Mayor Fahey and
Council Member Morelan may wish to add additional comments to the
notes 2 have indicated here. Council action to authorize
proceeding with the steps as indicated is desired at Wednesday's
meeting.
JH:kv
cc: Jim Morelan, Park & Recreation Director
Bill Sanders, Park Consultant
Ray Hanson, President of Canadian Days
Page 45
