PASS STEERING COMMITTEE <br />MINUTES 1/11/96 <br />Members present: Teri Graham, Blake Graham, Bruce Nelson, Jane Nelson, Beth Boger <br />Topics of discussion: New Data Privacy Legislation <br />Middle and High School Discipline Report <br />Action Project <br />NEW DATA PRIVACY LEGISLATION: Teri shared concerns about current changes <br />being proposed by a group of parents regarding data privacy. This may be an area of <br />interest for PASS. Discussion followed regarding implications pro and con. <br />MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL DISCIPLINE REPORT: Beth Boger reported on <br />meetings with Dr. Wil Chan, Principal of RAMS, and with Dean LaFrenz and Bob Rygh, <br />Principal of RAHS. Dr. Chan was very receptive to parent involvement at RAMS, and <br />he would like to see a partnership between the school and the community to address <br />issues of saftey. He supports a program to place adults (parents) in the halls of RAMS <br />during the school day. He sees this as a needed and positive step. Mr. Rygh feels there <br />really aren't any problems at RAHS because of the video cameras in the halls etc., but he <br />supports the idea of involving parents to staff the Career Center. The Climate Task Force <br />was also mentioned. <br />ACTION PROJECT: It was the concensus of those present that an active role could be <br />taken by PASS to recruit parents and interested adults to "walk the halls" at the middle <br />school by <br />1. informing Volunteer Coordinator, Christy Urman <br />2. Seeking funding for mailing costs <br />3. Drafting a letter to PASS roster initiating interest and involvement <br />4. Drafting a letter to PCN <br />5. Compiling data from willing volunteers regarding scheduling <br />The group felt it should focus on one project or issue at the present time. Goal was set to <br />draft and send a letter to all on PASS roster by Thurs. 1/18/96 with response requested by <br />1/26/96 through follow -up phone calls. <br />No future meeting dates were set. <br />See attached notes, and agenda. <br />Page 2 <br />
