Sanders made the point that the commission waited 10 years for
the Denery property to become available. He reminded the
commission that at one point, the owners would not even
discuss selling any land to the City, but now, the owners are
interested in developing it and the City has had this land
made available to them.
Remerowski made a motion to abandon the section of proposed
trail from Payne Avenue west to Edgerton and from Edgerton
west to Desoto and south on Desoto to Pioneer Park.
Motion seconded by Johnson.
Motion carried 3 - 2. Abies and Holm opposed the motion.
Johnson stated that the City Council was looking for a
recommendation and this motion was to be considered as such.
Johnson referred back to Remerowski's suggestion that a motion
be made to explore the ISTEA grant for a pedestrian bridge
over 35E at Demont.
Remerowski made a motion to have the City Engineer or the Park
Consultant explore the ISTEA funding for a pedestrian bridge
over 35E at Demont or at another suitable location.
Motion seconded by Rajanen.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
Holm questioned the earlier motion of abandoning the proposed
trail from Payne Avenue west to Edgerton and from Edgerton
west to Desoto and south on Desoto to Pioneer Park. Sanders replied that
the City would not be able to meet any type of standards for
bike trails because of liability involved, and suggested just
striping it. Remerowski felt striping, with no signs or
bicycle drawings on the asphalt is a good compromise. Johnson
felt other areas of the City are critical for this type of
marking also, in particular County Road B2 because it is not
wide enough, not marked, and many people walk this route.
Remerowski felt the reason for striping would be questioned by
residents. He felt residents would wonder why sidewalks are
not being put in.
4. Holm made a motion to investigate striping the Payne Avenue
and Desoto Avenue areas across Labore, and other pertinent
areas, for pedestrian bicycle traffic.
Motion seconded by Rajanen.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
Sanders mentioned that another area to discuss would be the
6
Page 89
