Minnesota Physical Medicine, P.A.
Karen S. Ryan, M.D.
Business Office
2570 McMenemy Street
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Electromyography (612) 482 -1591
Pain Management Fax (612) 232 -4325
May 30, 1996
City of Little Canada
515 E. Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Re: Conditional Use Permit Application
To whom it may concern:
I am a physician, specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. I see my
patients in my clinical office in downtown St. Paul, and as needed in metropolitan
area hospitals and nursing homes. I periodically do consulting with industry re:
job modification and also do medical legal work. I have maintained a home office
for the past 2 years, for the purpose of completion of necessary reports and other
general administrative functions, in my home at 2570 McMenemy St., Little
Canada. I do not see patients at this location, and, other than an occasional vendor
for office equipment or an appointment with an outside consultant, I have no
additional visitors to my home on the account of my business activities here.
I have come to the point of requiring part time clerical assistance for the
administrative functions of my practice and have hired a neighborhood teenager to
assist me with a variety of clerical duties, including such things as making copies,
filing and typing /word processing activities. Because she is 15, she falls under the
requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which I fully intend to observe.
Because she lives in the neighborhood, I do not anticipate any externally visible
change of the activity at my home, as she will be walking to her job, and therefore,
there will not even be an additional car to be parked on the premises.
I discovered, in checking with the city clerk and reviewing Ordinance 903.120,
that the employment of any non- resident brings my home occupation into a
different classification, and hence requires a conditional use permit. Enclosed
with this letter is my application for a conditional use permit.
Please advise me as to the location and time of the required Planning Commission
and City Council meetings and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely yours,
Karen S. Ryan, IfLD.
cc: file
Page 17
