the windshields of dozens of cars lined up for display. Instead, we request a license to operate our
brand of the car business — serving customers who call us to find a particular car or truck that they
wish to purchase.
Our proposed lease with Jim Burton reinforces the fact that we will not (and cannot) operate
a traditional "used car lot." The lease specifies that no more than five (5) cars for sale may be on the
premises at any one time. (Four cars will fit inside the enclosed garage on the property.) That five -car
restriction in the lease is, in fact, not a restriction to us. Because our business is designed to satisfy
customer requests for particular vehicles, it is rare for us to carry any significant inventory of cars.
Specifically, we do most of our business with automobile dealerships and North Star auction.
Consequently, the cars we locate for dealers mostly are sold to and paid for by the buyer before we
take delivery of the cars. Once we take delivery, the purchased cars then are immediately delivered
by us to the buyers. With regard to cars purchased to be sold at auction, they are transported to
Shakopee where they are stored until sold.
We wish to emphasize that our version of a used car business also is different from most in that
we do not have dozens of customers milling around a lot full of cars looking at "today- only" specials.
The only customers who come to our place of business are those who either already know us or who
have contacted us with regard to a particular car they are interested in purchasing. We fully expect
and desire that the Little Canada business neighborhood in which "Best Auto & Tire" is located
remain as quiet as it presently is and intend to help keep it that way. Consequently, we do no
reconditioning, body work, or maintenance of vehicles on the lot. Jim Burton has stressed the
importance of keeping the premises clean and neat, a sentiment that we also share. Moreover, we
believe that Jim's willingness to enter into a five -year lease with us signals his confidence that we
possess a view of how to run a business that is compatible with his and, we hope, the City Council's.
In closing, we trust that this letter provides a sufficient introduction and outline of our business
plans in Little Canada to enable the Little Canada City Council to approve our request for a used car
license. Please do not hesitate to call on us with any questions, comments or concerns you may have.
Our aim is that the Council have complete confidence in our proposed operation. It also is our goal
to continue operating an already - successful business in a community whose standards we respect and
will do our best to uphold.
Very truly yours,
Da e Madsen
(612) 639 -9318
Matt Benson
(612) 426-7213
Page 24
