Joel Hanson Dear Mr. Hanson, I am writing to follow -up on our conversation regarding the desire of the neighbors' of Viking Dr. to participate in the "Plant Partnership Program" offered by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The neighbors of Viking Dr., with the boundaries of McMenemy on the west and Edgerton on the east, would like to initiate the project with the MnDOT office in Roseville, to plant and maintain trees along the southern side of the fence that is adjacent to Hwy. 36. We have spoken to Bob Wryk of the MnDOT office and Mindy Greiling, our State Representative, and they have indicated to us that a letter of agreement to participate from the City Council is required to insure continuing maintenance should the properties adjoining the roadway change hands. We understand their need for a commitment and, as representatives of residents of Little Canada, we would like to pledge our commitment to assume responsibility for the ongoing maintenance of the trees. We, as parents, are concerned about the health of our children. Viking Dr. is on a direct level with the highway, and there is no barrier to absorb the noise, toxins, and pollutants that are constantly, day and night, being spewed into the atmosphere. So, from a health and environmental viewpoint, planting trees is a perfect solution. In addition, the trees will have a beautifying effect on the city of Little Canada, so it is a win -win situation for all involved. There are ten families along the street, and we have a commitment from everyone to support this program. For the majority of families, we intend to live here indefinitely and can pursue long -term goals. We would appreciate the support of the City Council in this regard and we are willing to work with your office to make this happen in an efficient and productive way. Thank you for your interest.
