CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
Office of:
JOSEPH G. CHLEBECK, Clerk
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minn. 55117
484 -2177
DATE: May 16, 1985
TO: City Council
FROM: Joseph Chlebeck
RE: Taxi Cabs
The question has arisen as to why we are issuing taxi licenses (and
driver's permits). In 1972 we adopted Ordinance 105 pertaining to
taxi cabs. The reason we got into this was for independent cab
drivers to get a license to operate from the Metropolitan Airport.
In order for them to get a license they had to get a license or
license permit from the east side of the river and one from the west
side of the river, and then the airport would issue them a license.
The airport police checks the vehicles and certain standards have to
be met.
When we first started issuing licenses, we issued about ten a year.
Last year we issued 350 licenses at $10.00 a piece. The ordinance
pertains to two items._ It pertains to a. license and it pertains
to a driver's permit.. The license provision pertains to a company
with a fleet of cars that would actually be located in Little Canada.
The driver's permit refers to any cab driver.
May question is, should all permits be $35.00? I believe they should
be. Again, I state that the purpose of this licensing was to provide
independent operators to work at the airport, which in essence cre-
ated jobs. It is our way of people helping people, but I think we
should go to $35.00
bj
101
MAYOR
Michael Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
B ltl Blesener
Rick Collova
Mugs Nardini
