MINUTIES
Planning Commission
January 10, 1085
Howe
Rezoning
Pronosal.
(Cont.)
Mr. DeLonais stated that he would like to see R -2 or R -3 zoning on the
west of Park Street as the east side of Park is R -1. This would
provide for a transitional zone in the area. DeLonais stated that the
R -2 or R -3 zone should extend about half way between Park Street and
Rice. DeLonais stated that he would also like to see the Peterson
and Villeaux property rezoned back to R -1 if the City would bear the
expense.
Mrs. Timmons stated that she thinks the Howe proposal is very acceptable.
Timmons stated that this is better than a lot of things that could go
in the area under the current 3 -3 zoning and will appease the people
on the east side of the street.
Mr. French asked if Mr. Howe intended to sell the buildings. Mr. Howe
replied that for the present he will keep the buildings, but may sell
in the future.
French asked if all access would he to Park Street. Mr. Howe replied
that it would and the remainder of the Anderson property would access
onto Rice Street.
Mr. Gowe stated that he is proposing five garages for each building
and the extra stall is intended for someone with a boat or extra
vehicle.
Mr. Herkenhoff asked if multiple dwellings would be acceptable to the
neighbors. Mr. DeLonais pointed out that there will be a public hearing
on the proposal. DeLonais felt that the neighbors would probably
prefer the multiple dwellings to a business.
Mr. Costa stated that he did not see the area as a business neighborhood.
Mr. DeLonais recommended approval of the Gordy Howe Park Avenue
development proposal subject to the Planner's report dated January
3, 1985.
Motion seconded by Mr. Costa.
Motion carried 7 — 1. Mr. French opposing.
Mr. French stated that the reason that he is opposed to the proposal
is that he does not like the idea of stacking two buildings on the same
property. Mr. Howe replied that when going through the final plat,
the property will be split.
Mr. French. pointed out that there are people with large lots in the
City and he objects to having a building in the back. However, French
felt that the proposal was better than having a business develop in
the area.
Page —2—
