CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
Office of:
JOSEPH G. CHLEBECK, Clerk
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minn. 55117
484 -2177
January 22, 1985
TO:
FROM:
RE:
CITY COUNCIL
ROGER GLANZER
THE PURCHASE OF A JETTING MACHINE
MAYOR
Raymond Hanson
COUNCIL
Michael Fahey
Beverly Scalze
Dennis Forsberg
Mugs Nardini
At last year's sewer and water budget meeting, we talked about purchasing
a jetting machine from the City of Maplewood for cleaning our sewer mains.
Maplewood has contacted me and they are going to take bids on this machine
the first part of February. This machine would be used for removing sand,
grease, tree roots, and sewer line blockages from our sewer lines. It
will also be used for cleaning storm sewers, culverts and opening frozen
culverts. A jetting machine is faster, easier and cleans more efficiently
than our rodding machine, which is only designed for tree roots and sewer
line blockages. The rodding machine was purchased in 1968 and this brand
of machine is no longer being made, although most rodding machines have
similar parts, some replacement parts may be hard to find. All cities
who own jetting machines, also have a rodding machine for that special
situation or emergency, so the City would want to keep our present
rodding machine also.
What we would be purchasing from Maplewood is a jetting machine only,
not the truck that it's on. From observing the jetter in operation and
talking to the people who have operated it over the past few years
regarding the operating condition of the machine, the response has been
that it runs as good as their new jetter. The 2800 gallon water tank that
sits between the cab and jetting unit does leak, but I would have the tank
rebuilt to about a 1200 gallon capacity. This jetter was bought new by
Maplewood in about 1968 -69 as trailer unit, but saw limited service.
It wasn't until about seven years ago they mounted it on a truck and used
it on a regular basis. The machine has 1800 hours on it (not accurate but
Maplewood feels its close). The jetter has been removed from its truck
and is sitting over at Truck Utilities on Highway 36. I have talked to
Truck Utilities about prices for putting this unit together and the
following prices are what we came up with;
* Rebuilding the water tank $ 540.00
This does not include extra material that they might need.
* Mount tank and jetter on truck 600.00
* Jetter from Maplewood 2400.00
* Used 21 ton truck (1979 -80) 7000.00
I may be able to find one cheaper, but I wouldn't want to
spend anymore.
*Paint jetter and truck 1000.00
0410.-0
11
