MEMORANDUM
northwest associated consultants, inc.
TO: David Licht
FROM: James Vick
DATE: 18 July 1985
RE: Little Canada - Grading and Excavation Ordinance
FILE N0: 758.09
We have reviewed the 1982 Uniform Building Code Chapter 70, EXCAVATION AND
GRADING, as to its applicability to the City of Little Canada. Although
the language varies, the Sections of the U.B.C. and City Code are much the
same. Following is an analysis of the sections of this code.
Permits Required: The Little Canada City Code defines when a permit is
required and exceptions to this requirement. The U.B.C. Code also defines
the permit requirement and exceptions, however, the exceptions are more
detailed. The City Code is not structured to attend to all these exceptions,
therefore the existing land fill /excavation ordinance is more comprehensive
to the City's needs.
Informational Requirements: In addition to basic site location and design data
which is required in both Codes, the U.B.C. also requires specific engineering
data. The City Engineer should be referred to for the applicability of this
information.
Permit Fees: Both Codes refer to the permit fees. The City has determined
an appropriate fee and should maintain this fee for consistency.
Bonding: Covered in both Codes. Again, the City should use the specifications
which they have already agreed upon.
Sections 7009 through 7013 of the U.B.C. list engineering specifications. The
City Code leaves these specifications up to the discretion of the City Engineer.
The City Engineer should provide comments on his conformance to these specifica-
tions and recommendations of their applicability.
6
4870 minnetonka blvd. minneapolis, mn, ste. 200 55416 (612) 925-9420
