i qk( ''^'''/ /gLfq. tni, 6 <br />Subp. 2. Municipal option. The sprinkler system <br />requirements in subpart 3 may be adopted without change by a <br />municipality. If they are adopted, the requirements are <br />applicable throughout the municipality for new buildings, <br />additions to buildings, and buildings for which the occupancy <br />cl assification is changed. <br />Subp. 3. Requirements. Automatic sprinkler systems must <br />be installed and maintained in operable condition in buildings <br />in the occupancy cl assifications listed in items A to L. This <br />requirement is in addition to other minimum requirements set in <br />the state building code. The height and area increases provided <br />in sections 506 and 507 of the Uniform Building Code, as adopted <br />in the state building code are applicable. <br />A. Group A -1 occupancies. <br />B. Group A -2 occupancies with an occupant load of 300 <br />or more. <br />C. Group A -2.1 occupancies. <br />D. Group B -1 service stations with 3,000 or more <br />gross square feet of area, not including canopies. <br />E. Group B -1 parking garages with 5,000 or more gross <br />square feet of area. <br />F. Group 8 -2 offices and postsecondary classrooms <br />with 8,500 or more gross square feet of area or three or more <br />stories in height. <br />G.`:' Group 8 -2 retail „warehouse, or manufacturing <br />areas with.2,000 or more gross square feet of area or three or <br />more stories ill .he fight <br />8. Group E -1 and E- 2"'occupancies with 8,500 or more <br />gross square feet in area or two or more stories in height, <br />except for minor additions that do not increase the occupant <br />load or significantly increase the Eire load. <br />I. Group E -3 occupancies with an occupant load of 30 <br />or more. <br />J. Group 8 -4 occupancies with 3,000 or more gross <br />square feet of area. <br />K. Group R -1 apartment houses with 8,500 or more <br />gross square feet of area or with dwelling units on three or <br />more floors, except that when they are not required by Uniform <br />Building Code, section 1807 or 1907, or other provisions of the <br />state building code, automatic sprinkler systems within dwelling <br />units in apartment occupancies are considered complete when <br />protection is provided in all habitable rooms. Building <br />officials, in concurrence with their fire chiefs, may accept <br />alternate systems which have fire protection capabilities <br />equivalent to systems which comply with standard 38-1 of the <br />Uniform Building Code. <br />L.
