Roseville Area Schools
Arden Hills, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, Maplewood, Roseville, Shoreview
District 623
May 29, 1985
Mayor Michael I. Fahey
515 E. Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Mike:
JAMES A. KLASSEN
Director of
Community Relations
Again I wish to express my appreciation for the workshop which was held last
evening. I share the concern of you and the Council regarding the proper
utilization of the Kellogg High School site should it become a community
center.
I was particularly pleased at your encouragement to us that you would like
to see the facility become a true community center. I appreciated the op-
portunity to outline the problems that we would face in order to bring that
about. Given sufficient lead time it is a viable option. I am sure that
other options will also be looked at over the ensuing months. Throughout
our deliberation on this matter I can assure you that we will maintain open
dialogue with you, the Council and the citizens of Little Canada.
As discussed last evening, I am sending you a copy of the current Philosophy
and Goals for the Community School Services. These were originally adopted
by the School Board in 1976 and were reaffirmed in October, 1980. I am also
enclosing a copy of the Couniunity Education Rules which were adopted by the
State Board of Education in 1976. As a school district we are obligated to
follow these rules.
I wish to thank Councilman Bill Blesener for his "working paper" on pos-
sible wording for your proposed ordinance. I know that you are still
troubled by the term "human services ". You might want to consider the term
community services which we have used for the past several years in describ-
ing our program.
I will continue to research my literature to see if there are any additional
recommendations which might be helpful to you. During the next 30 days, if
there is any additional information which you need, please don't hesitate to
call on me. I am sure that by working together we can come to a reasonable
solution to the problem. I view this as a significant opportunity which in
the long run will improve the quality of life for all of our citizens.
Si erely,
Jim`K1Qssen, Director
Commu ty Relations
c: Little Canada Councilmembers
Dr. Lloyd Nielsen, Superintendent
Paul Borg, Assistant Superintendent
Bob Bierscheid, Assistant Director, Community Education
Karolyn Kingsburg, Coordinator, Family Programs
MAY 30 1965
CITY OF
LITTLE CANADA
1251 WEST COUNTY ROAD B -2 / ROSEVILLE, MINNESOTA 55113 / TELEPHONE
An Equal Opportunity Employer ' 36
612/633 8150
