Independent School District No. 623 File: KA 1 of 2 Subject: COMMUNITY SCHOOL SERVICES (COMMUNITY EDUCATION) 1.0 Philosophy Independent School District 623 encourages citizen involvement in determining Community School Services policies, programs, and services through the District - wide Advisory Council and related advisory councils. 1.1 The first priority in use of school facilities shall be for the instructional program K -12. When not required for such purposes, the use of facilities by Community School Services is strongly encouraged. 1.2 The purpose of Community School Services is to maximize use of available physical facilities, financial resources, and human talent in a life -long process of learning and growth. 1.3 The Community School Services program encourages. participation and involvement in the utilization of school facilities by public and private groups that share in the health, welfare, and educational interests of the community. 1.4 Independent School District 623 encourages cooperation with the city councils and other interested community groups in providing services to citizens in a manner that will avoid an overlapping of services for the same participating population. 1.5 The Community School Services program recognizes recreation and travel, in addition to intellectual and cultural activities, as means of human development, and considers the facilitating of opportunities in these areas a function of the program. 1.6 Independent School District 623 acknowledges the need for citizens to be informed about all .areas of the K -12 program and the extended Community School Services program, and considers that the provision of such information may be a function of the Community School Services Program. 1.7 Community School Service activities shall not be funded and operated from the general fund.
