Independent School District No. 623 <br />File: KA <br />1 of 2 <br />Subject: COMMUNITY SCHOOL SERVICES (COMMUNITY EDUCATION) <br />1.0 Philosophy <br />Independent School District 623 encourages citizen <br />involvement in determining Community School Services <br />policies, programs, and services through the District - <br />wide Advisory Council and related advisory councils. <br />1.1 The first priority in use of school facilities shall <br />be for the instructional program K -12. When not <br />required for such purposes, the use of facilities by <br />Community School Services is strongly encouraged. <br />1.2 The purpose of Community School Services is to maximize <br />use of available physical facilities, financial <br />resources, and human talent in a life -long process <br />of learning and growth. <br />1.3 The Community School Services program encourages. <br />participation and involvement in the utilization of <br />school facilities by public and private groups that <br />share in the health, welfare, and educational <br />interests of the community. <br />1.4 Independent School District 623 encourages cooperation <br />with the city councils and other interested community <br />groups in providing services to citizens in a manner <br />that will avoid an overlapping of services for the same <br />participating population. <br />1.5 The Community School Services program recognizes <br />recreation and travel, in addition to intellectual <br />and cultural activities, as means of human development, <br />and considers the facilitating of opportunities in <br />these areas a function of the program. <br />1.6 Independent School District 623 acknowledges the need <br />for citizens to be informed about all .areas of the <br />K -12 program and the extended Community School <br />Services program, and considers that the provision <br />of such information may be a function of the Community <br />School Services Program. <br />1.7 Community School Service activities shall not be <br />funded and operated from the general fund. Exceptions <br />to this policy can be made only by School Board action. <br />(over) <br />37 <br />
