PROPOSED PROGRAM EXPANSION: <br />The Special Community Services, unlike the counseling services, do not lend themselves <br />to mobility. To maintain these services in a given location requires extensive access <br />to filing systems, coordination, and matching clients with community resources. Because <br />of the popularity of these services within the community, they have grown to the point <br />where access has been limited because of limited space and staff resources. Utilization <br />of these services has continued to be heavily concentrated in the geographic area surroundin <br />the Fairview Community Center. In the past 3 - 6 months (with the addition of the Senior <br />Home Chore Project) it has become increasingly difficult to meet the increased demands the <br />special services project has developed within the Fairview Community Center service area <br />due to: <br />- Positive public reaction and consequential growth of these special <br />services. <br />- Limited available space within the Fairview Community Center. <br />- Under- utilization of these special services in service areas not immediately <br />accessible to Fairview Community Center. <br />- Space, staffing, and coordination resources currently lacking to serve the <br />entire northwest Ramsey County service area. <br />We are proposing expansion of our Special Community Services into additional office space <br />to complement and to better serve the existing community response to our programs currently <br />offered at the Fairview Community Center. <br />The programs appropriate for immediate expansion would include: <br />- Youth Employment Program (currently serving over 900 youths per year). <br />- Senior Home Chore Project(currently serving 4,000 hours of chore service to <br />150 seniors annually). <br />- Employment Placement Seminars <br />The programs appropriate for expansion within 6 months would include: <br />- Shoplifters Diversion Program <br />- Community Service Restitution <br />Within 6 - 12 months of the expansion, it would be very practical and realistic to evaluate: <br />- Expansion of counseling services to the location. <br />- Development of additional community service projects compatible with the <br />unique needs of the area. - 43 <br />
