MINUTES
City Council
Oct. 10, 1985
Metal
Buildings
The Planner reported that the Council is concerned that metal buildings
will appear in residential and business zones. This is the reason for
the proposed code amendment. This amendment does not effect industrial
areas.
Mr.Davison asked if under the Code amendment if someone could put up
a 10 foot by 13 foot metal shed. The Planner replied that this would
not be allowed, but a 10 by 12 shed would be. The Code would limit
sheds to no greater than 120 square feet.
Mr. Davi on asked if the Council was in the position to make judgments
as outlined in item 3 of the proposed amendment. The Planner replied
that the zoning ordinance is to preserve the health, safety and general
welfare of the City, and, therefore, the Council can make judgments
involving property values.
Mr. Davison pointed out the Building Inspector's opinion on the the
items outlined in the ordinance amendment. The Planner stated that the
ordinance is similar to what other cities have and contains pretty
standard language.
Kingsbury commented that she felt the ordinance gave the community
time to reflect on what goes in.
Mr. Costa pointed out that Budget Power isa metal building and does not
look bad in a business district. Mr. Grittman pointed out the City's
industrial park and it was the feeling of the Council that this should
not be allowed in a residential or business district.
Mr. DeLonais pointed out that the buildings in the industrial park are
just warehouses.
The Planner stated that there iscurrently no restriction on putting
these buildings up in a business district. The City does not want
these in business districts, and wants high- quality development.
Mr. DeLonais asked if steel siding would be acceptable if it were non-
structural. The Planner replied that under this amendment it would not
be permitted.
Mr. DeLonais recommended tabling action on the ordinance amendment
dealing with metal buildings until such time as the Council replies
to the Building Inspector's September 27 letter on this subject.
Motion seconded by Mrs. Kingsbury.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
Page -5-
