MINUTES Planning Commission Jan. 9, 1986 Other The Commission expressed concern that the Council recently appointed Business Mr. DeLonais and Mrs. Schweizer for one -year terms when members have always been appointed to three -year terms in the past. The Commission was also concerned that the Council has decreased the size of the Planning Commission without first obtaining input from the Commission. Mrs. Timmons pointed out that the first year on the Planning Commission is a learning experience and Timmons was also concerned that by having 5 vacancies on the Commission at the end of 1986, there could be a lack of experienced individuals carryied over into the following years. Timmons also expressed concern that there was no training offered to new Commission members. Adjourn Mr. Herkenhoff was concerned that the size of the Commission was reduced. Herkenhoff felt that it benefited the Commission and the City to have a nine member Commission as more ideas are generated and better decisions can he made. Timmons felt that the individual Commission members should contact the Councilmembers regarding these concerns. It was also pointed out that the Council has taken no action on the Commission's recommendation at their December meeting that the salary of the Commission members be increased in 1986. Mr. Davison recommended that the Council reconsider the change in size of the Planning Commission without input or consultation from the Planning Commission and also the change in length of term for two of the members from 3 years to 1 year terms. Mr. Davison recommended that the meeting be adjourned. Motion seconded by Mr. DeLonais. Motion carried 7 - 0. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:02 P.M.
