".IHUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
August 14, 1986
Conditional Motion seconded by Mr. Perlinger.
Use Permits
(Cont.) Motion carried 6 - 0.
Text
Amendment
5riveway
Turn- arounds
Setbacks
For
Accessory
Buildings
The City Planner submitted to the Commission a proposed text
amendment providing for driveway turnarounds. The Planner
explained that in some areas it is hazardous to back onto a
City street, Edgerton for example, and a driveway turn around
can be backed into so that a car can pull out onto the street.
Mrs. Timmons was concerned that these turnarounds would become
parking spots. Timmons felt that there would be problems
enforcing this. Timmons pointed out that the ordinance states
that these spots should not be used for parking and suggested
that this be eliminated as there are other City ordinances that
address this.
The Planner stated that if the City allows parking in these
turnaround spots, it will defeat the purpose of the turnaround.
Timmons stated that she would not like to see cars tagged for
parking is such spots if someone had a party, for example, and
the spot was used for extra parking. Timmons felt that the
City's ordinance already addressed the issue of abandoned cars
or inoperable cars. Timmons did not think the City should write
an ordinance that was unenforceahle.
Mrs. Timmons recommended approval of the proposed text amendment
pertaining to driveway turnarounds with the exclusion of the
last sentence of that ordinance due to the reasons stated above.
Motion seconded by Mr. Perlinger.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
The Planner submitted a proposed text amendment to the Commission
which sets a rearyard setback for accessory buildings at 10 feet.
The Planner explained that this was the setback under the City's
old ordinance, but when the ordinances were revised, the rearyard
setback was changed to 30 feet.
The Planner pointed out that currently that are many non - conforming
accessory buildings in the City that could not be rebuilt under
the current ordinance if the need arose.
The Planner pointed out that this ordinance would apply to
accessory buildings such as garages, gazebos, tool sheds, etc.
Pane -8-
