PAUL -- The Ramsey County Board on Monday, Aug. 4,
authorized County Executive Director Terry Schutten to issue
necessary permits to remove the contaminated soil from the
site of the Williams Pipeline gasoline explosion in Mounds
View.
The July 8 pipeline explosion, which killed two Mounds
View residents and severely injured another person, left a
large quantity of soil in the immediate explosion area
contaminated with gasoline. The Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency, in consultation with Ramsey County's Environment-
al Health Division, will oversee the cleanup operation.
Work is expected to begin soon.
The Board also recommended that the Executive Director
issue necessary permits for temporary repairs to the portion
of Long Lake Road which was removed in order to excavate
the ruptured pipeline.
