County Board Action <br />page 2 <br />The County Board made it clear that it is only <br />authorizing temporary repairs to Long Lake Road so the road <br />can be restored to traffic. The board's decision to repair <br />the road should not be viewed as permission to install, <br />reinstall, repair or test the pipeline. <br />In related action, the County Board agreed to secure a <br />technical consultant to investigate the safety of Williams <br />Pipeline's system, which consists of two separate lines <br />running underground through nearly 26 miles in Ramsey Coun- <br />ty alone. The underground pipelines are used for transport- <br />ing refined petroleum products to and from a tank farm that <br />is located within the county. <br />The consultant will advise the County Board about mat- <br />ters relating to the explosion in Mounds View, as well as <br />on pipeline safety in general. <br />The County Board also authorized Diane Ahrens, chair- <br />person of the board, to send a letter to the National <br />Transportation Safety Board requesting that the NTSB take a <br />position on the adequacy of the testing plan now being <br />proposed by Williams Pipeline officials. <br />The County Board has learned that discussions are under <br />way between the Federal Office of Pipeline Safety and <br />Williams Pipeline Company regarding a plan for testing and <br />the eventual restarting of Williams Pipeline's underground <br />-- more -- <br />13 <br />
