MINNESOTA TRAIL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Minnesota Trail Assistance Program is a cost sharing program which
allows local units of government and trail user organizations to receive
funding for the development and yearly maintenance of snowmobile, ski touring
and equestrian trail systems. In the past five years, over 4,800 miles of
snowmobile trail and 350 miles of ski touring trail has been developed
and is currently being maintained under this program. The Equestrian
Program, initiated last year, has not received any applications for funding.
For fiscal year 1978, which began July 1, 1977, a total of $775,000.00
has been set up to be awarded as grants -in -aid to local units of government
and trail user organizations. The State will reimburse 65% of total develop-
ment and maintenance costs for approved snowmobile, ski touring and
equestrian trail projects. The remaining 35% can be matched by actual cash
dollars or through donated in -kind labor. Funding will be limited for new
development in the snowmobile and ski touring programs, but the Department
strongly encourages local units of government and saddle clubs to submit
applications for funding for the equestrian program.
Additional information regarding the programs and information packages may
be obtained by contacting:
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources
Division of Parks and Recreation
Trails Section
196 Centennial Office Building
St. Paul, MN 55155
0036
