MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 25, 2006
GENERATOR The Public Works Superintendent reviewed his report relative to the
& ELECTRICAL purchase of a generator and installation of the appropriate electrical
CONNECTION connection for the City Center. With regard to the electrical connection,
FOR THE the Superintendent reported that two quotes were received for hardware
CITY CENTER and installation of the connection, and one quote was received for
hardware only that would require the City to hire an electrician for
installation. In analyzing these three quotes, it was the Superintendent's
recommendation that Che quote of Ziegler for hardware only with the City
hiring an electrician for the installation was the most cost efficient.
Mr. Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2006-7-2I -AWARDING THE LOW QUOTE OF
ZIEGLER FOR ELECTRICAL HARD WARE FOR INSTALLATION
OF A GENERATOR CONNECTION FOR CITY HALL IN THE
AMOUNT OF $70,000 PLUS SALES TAX, AND AUTHORIZING
PUBLIC WORKS TO ACCEPT THE LOWEST QUOTE RECEIVED
FOR INSTALLATION OF THIS HARDWARE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Blesener.
Ayes (3).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
The Superintendent then reviewed the quotes received for both new and
used generators. The Superintendent felt that the quote received from
PowerHouse for a refurbished generator was the most cost-efficient.
However, he noted that the generator is located out-of-state, and would
have to be shipped to Minnesota and inspected before the City proceeds
with the purchase.
Keis asked about new generator versus used and asked what was
considered to be acceptable for hours of usage on a used generator. The
Superintendent noted that it appears that anything less than 5,000 hours
appears to be good and that the PowerHouse generator has 2,000 hours.
He also noted that a used generator would be refurbished. The
Superintendent noted if the City authorizes the purchase of the
PowerHouse generator subjecC to a satisfactory inspection, they will ship
the generator to Minnesota. If the City finds it to be unacceptable upon
inspection, the City is under no obligation to purchase it. The appropriate
plugs will be provided for any generator the City purchases to ensure
compatibility with the hardware installation.
9
