MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 25, 2006
some limited on-street parking, and would address the snowplowing issue.
The Superintendent agreed that this would be a workable solution.
Keis asked about on-sheet parking on Desoto Street when there are ball
tournaments at Pioneer Park. The Superintendent pointed out that Desoto
Street adjacent to the Pioneer Park parking lot is posted as no parking. He
also noted that there is an overflow parking lot on the east side of the park
that accommodates the additional traffic resulting from ball tournaments.
The City Administrator pointed out the City's policy of issuing on-street
parking permits to residents who have a need such as a graduation party or
other event.
Montour felt the parking restrictions were needed and pointed out that
Public Works has not been able to plow the full width of Desoto Street for
the past two or three years because of the on-street parking adjacent to
Montreal Courts. Montour agreed with Blesener that the east side should
be posted no parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. If the problem is not resolved,
Montour suggested that the nexC step would be to work with the neighbors
to come up with a more reshictive solution.
Blesener suggested that the Sheriff's Department be informed of the new
posting as soon as the signs are up. It was also suggested that notices be
placed on the cars parking on the street informing them of the new parking
restrictions.
Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO.2006-1-20 -APPROVING THE FOLLOWING
PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON DESOTO STREET AND
AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT TO
INSTALL THE APPROPRIATE SIGNAGE:
• NO PARKING ON THE WEST SIDE OF DESOTO STREET
FROM LAHORE ROAD TO THE FIRST ENTRANCE TO THE
PIONEER PARK PARKING LOT;
• NO PARKING BETWEEN 2 A.M. AND 6 A.M. ON THE EAST
SIDE OF DESOTO STREET FROM LAHORE ROAD TO THE
SOUTH LEG OF COSTA LANE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Keis.
Ayes (3).
Nays (0).
