reference under the provisions of Minnesota Statutes 471.62, and <br />counties may adopt codes by reference under Minnesota Statutes <br />375.51. <br />Section 2. ENFORCEMENT <br />(a) The Chief of the Fire Department serving the (city) (county) <br />(township), or his representative authorized by him, shall enforce the <br />provisions of this ordinance. <br />(b) The Chief of the Fire Department may detail such members of <br />the Fire Department as inspectors as shall from time to time be necessary. <br />The Chief of the Fire Department may recommend the employment of tech- <br />nical inspectors, who, when such authorization is made, shall be selected <br />through an examination to determine their fitness for the position. The <br />examination shall be open to members and nonmembers of the Fire Depart- <br />ment, and appointments made after examination shall be for an indefinite <br />term with removal only for cause. <br />NOTE: Cities and townships generally have the authority to provide <br />for fire protection (see, for statutory cities, Minnesota Statutes <br />412.221, subd. 17; and for townships, Minnesota Statutes 365.15). <br />Counties may provide fire protection for unorganized areas under <br />Minnesota Statutes 365.243. By contact through a joint powers <br />agreement, Minnesota Statute 471.59, a County may provide fire <br />protection to• cities or townships. Cities may contract with town- <br />ships or other cities to provide fire protection. If a city, county <br />or township which adopts the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code does not <br />have a fire department, it may contract for inspection and enforce- <br />ment services with a unit of government which does have a fire <br />department. <br />Section 3. DEFINITIONS <br />(a) Wherever the word "jurisdiction" is used in the Minnesota <br />Uniform Fire Code, it shall be held to mean the (city) (county) (township) <br />
