-1 OFFICE OF THE LAND COIS SICUER, RPYSEY COUNTY SUBJECT: Administration of Tax Forfeited kind 9/29/72 Immediately after forfeiture, the lists of lands forfeited to the State for nonpayment of taxes are certified to the Office of the Tend Commissioner by the Office of the County Auditor. Appropriate records are prepared and maintained for the purpose of accounting for all such lands, the properties are inspected as soon as possible after forfeiture, and as often as necessary thereafter. This procedure, along with the information received from the various sources cited hereafter, is used to prepare the Land Commissioner's recommendation to the county board as to whether the lands are to be sold, or withheld from sale for a public purpose. Initial requirements, in conformance with Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 282, are as follows: 1. Classification of tax forfeited lands by resolution of the county board. (see attached sheet on classification) 2. Approval of said classification by local governing body wherein these lands lie. The lists of classified lands are then delivered to the following: All cities and villages wherein such lands lie. (this includes the Rousing and Redevelopment Authority and the Port Authority of St. Paul). The Office of the county engineer. The Office of the director of parks and recreation. The County Board must approve by resolution, the following actions: Classification of tax forfeited lands. Reclassification of tax forfeited lands. The sale and appraisal of tax forfeited lands and setting tint of sale. Withholding Irnds from sale for possible public use. Releasing for sale such lands withheld. Repurchases of tax forfeited lands by former owners. Applications by governmental subdivisions for conveyance of such lands. Required action by city or village council or town board -by resolution: Approval of the classification of tax forfeited land. (as classified by the county board) Approval of sale of tax forfeited lands. 032-
