MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 8, 2006
an interest deduction given the truck was completed in less time than
anticipated. Smiley reported that the Fire Department has the new truck
and anticipates ChaC it will be in service within a month. The truck thaC
was replaced is currently being advertised for sale.
Mr. LaValle inhoduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2006-2-37 -APPROVING THE CHANGE
ORDER FOR THE LITTLE CANADA FIRE TRUCK IN THE
AMOUNT OF $4,664 AS RECOMMENDED BY THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Allan.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
COUNTY The City Administrator reviewed his letter dated February 3, 2006
ROAD B relative to the Rice StreeC Bridge over Highway 36 as well as the
PARK & RIDE possible park and ride lot at County Road B and Rice Street. The
AND Administrator reviewed the fact that the Metropolitan Council is
RICE considering the consriuction of a park and ride lot on excess MN DOT
STREET property in that location, as well as the traffic problems at that
BRIDGE intersection. The Administrator pointed out that while historically Little
Canada has supported mass transit, there are significant traffic problems at
Rice Street and County Road B. The Administrator noted that St. Jude
Medical has expressed fiustration with traffic and the negative impact it is
having on customers and employees.
The Administrator felt that the solution may be the reconstruction of the
Rice Street bridge over Highway 36. Additional lanes and improved
geometries should enable a resolution of the current problems. The
downside is that a new bridge could negatively impact the proposed park
and ride site. The Administrator pointed out that at this point a best
estimate for reconstruction of the bridge is 2020.
The Administrator reported that St. Jude Medical has requested thaC
Governor Pawlenty and the State reconsider the prioritization of
improvements to the Rice Street bridge. They have also expressed
concern to the Governor about the impact that the proposed park and ride
lot would have on an already difficult traffic situation. The Administrator
also noted that Representative Scalze is carrying legislation to address
funding for design of a new bridge and has been working very hard on this
issue.
15
