RESOLUTION NO 1504 STATE OF MINNESOTA COUNTY OF RAMSEY CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON CHTY• OF LITTLE CANADA RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO A PROPOSED RAMSEY C POLICE DEPARTMENT the City Council of the City of New Brighton has informed that the Ramey County Board of Commissioners will soon consider a proposal to form a County wide Ramsey County Police Department to replace the existing Raaasey County Sheriffs Department and all of the City Police Departments within Ramsey County, and WHEREAS New Brighton desires to communicate its ition on this proposal to the Ramsey County Board THEREFORE.BE IT RESOLVED by the New Brighton City Council that the City of New Brighton opposes the proposed creation of a Ramsey County Police Department to replace the Ramsey County Sheriffs Department and all City Police Departments within Ramsey County for the following reasons; 1. There is no evidence that such a system would be more efficient; 2. There is good reason to expect that such a system would diminish rather than imprrve service; 3. There is no evidence that such a system would lower overall costs and good reason to expect that costs would be higher; 4. There is no evidence that there is any need for the proposed change; 5. There is good reason to expect that responsiveness to local problems would decreases 6. The proposal would result in the lose of local controls 7. There is no evidence that this proposal is promoted or supported by those for whom the need for change allegedly exists BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the Ramsey County Legislative Delegation, Ramsay county Board of Commissioners, and to all City Councils in Ramsey County Adopted by the New Brighton City council this 11th day of February 1975.
