Office of
JOSEPH G. CHLEBECK, Clerk
515 Little Canada Road
St. Paul, Minn. 55117
484-2177
CITY OF L E CANADA
RAMS SOTA
MEMO:
February 6, 1975
TO: City Council
FROM: L. Squires
Building Inspector
MAYOR
Donald Valente,
COUNCILMEN
Robert De Baca
Raymond Hanson
Jim Veilleux
Morris "Murf' Jespersen
RE: Building Permit Fees
Per your request, 1 have made a short analysis of the change in
permit fees using table 3 -A of the U.B.C. The increase for commercial
and industrial permits would not be changed as much as for dwellings.
I feel, as does the other villages mentioned, that fees for resid-
ential permits have remained the same for years and have not kept up
with the times. To date the largest portion of the total fees paid
with the building permit have been the S.A.C. charges and state
surcharge. Neither of these benefit the City of Little Canada and
I don't believe the small portion for the actual building permit
is paying for all the costs of inspection, administration, records,
and office space. Below are listed several comparisons with the
existing schedule and with the table 3 -A of the U. B. C.
TYPE EXISTING U. B. C.
1, 26 x 44 Single family dwelling $ 42.00 $ 96.00
2. 24 x 24 Garage $ 8.00 $ 28.00
3. McDonalds Rice Street $200,00 $287.00
4, Precision Metal $850.00 $774,50
5. N. W. Bell Remodel $274.00 $342.50
With each passing day, from experiene and from schooling, I learn more
about the code and am able to apply the code more effectively to
insure good construction practices within our City. Because of this
I can spend my time more efficiently but I still do not believe
the existing fees cover the costs of maintaining an office and building
inspection department. If you have any questions, I would be happy
to meet with the council at your convenience.
Respectfully submitted
L. Squires
Building Inspector
City of Little Canada
of
page- 12
m
