-2-
6. Drainage conditions on Carla Lane and Keller Parkway continue
to be investigated. Carley and Associates has submitted a
plan for reestablishing drainage for the area. We do not
support the proposed solution because of the amount of open
ditch. We would prefer to have a more permanent resolution
of the problem. We have informed Carley and Associates we
would cooperate with them if the City of Little Canada
approves the plans.
At a recent meeting with George Gotwald and Joe Chlebeck,
this matter was discussed and I suggested that they get on
with the repair of the old drainage system because it appears
that a permanent solution is not going to take place and some
Maplewood residents are being hurt because the existing drainage
was disrupted when the new home was constructed at the southwest
corner of Carla Lane and Keller Parkway two years ago. The
County would be willing to participate in the construction of
a permanent storm sewer for this area with the cities of Little
Canada and Maplewood on a ratio -of -use basis. Attached is an
excerpt from the 1979 budget showing assessments. Note Little
Canada is not mentioned. I have included this to demonstrate
that Rnmsey County does participate in storm sewer projects
in other' communities.
I have also included the proposed assessments from the 1980
budget. Please note we anticipate an assessment from Little
Canada for the intersection of Little Canada Road and Edgerton.
7. The speed zoning of Edgerton Street from Trunk Highway 36 to
County Road D was investigated by the Minnesota Department of
Transportation and authorized at 40 mph on May 3, 1979. I
understand that representatives of Mn /DOT and our staff sub-
sequently have met with you to discuss this recommended zoning.
Also, you have asked us to review the signing at County Road C
and Lake Shore Avenue. Attached is a report from our traffic
engineer, Paul Kirkwold.
We hope we have been able to answer some of your concerns.
enneth E.
