Ramsey County Engineers Department
August 29, 1979
3377 North Rice Street
Saint Paul, Minnesota 55112
Mr. Joseph Chlebeck, Clerk
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Mike Theis Landfill Permit
Divisions of
Engineering
Maintenance
Motor Vehicle
Environmental
(612)484 -9104
I have reviewed the material you submitted on this permit applica-
tion. The fill would eliminate about 2,000 square feet of wetland
and about 0.2 acre feet of flood storage from the Lake Gervais
flood plain. This in itself is insignificant, but when included
with other filling occurring in low areas around Lake Gervais, a
substantial amount of flood plain is being lost.
The net effect of elimination of flood plain is higher levels on
the Gervais chain of lakes during and after heavy rains. I believe
Little Canada should develop a comprehensive drainage plan that
includes ponding areas to compensate for those lost to development.
I recommend that the city follow through obtaining a ponding ease-
ment on property immediately west of the Theis property to replace
flood plain being filled in areas south of Lake Gervais, including
the Theis property.
Daniel G.
