MINUTIrS <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 10, 2006 <br />Weisman expressed concern with the destruction of old growth forest and <br />trees in Little Canada. He suggested that Che City require that aC least 15 <br />old growth trees be maintained on each lot that is developed. He also <br />recommended that the street connection to Viking Drive as a parC of The <br />Preserve plat be eliminated in order to maintain additional trees and <br />animal habitat. <br />Blesener pointed out that requiring 15 o]d growth trees to remain on each <br />lot would likely preclude the ability to construct a house on the lot. <br />Weisman suggested at least 10 trees remain so that animals would have a <br />place to stay. <br />The City Administrator pointed out that the City has a tree preservation <br />ordinance Chat developers are required to comply with. The Preserve <br />developers are required to comply with this ordinance as well as maintain <br />a no disturb area adjacent to Che pond. The Administrator stated that he <br />was not sure there was a better option to maintain trees, yet still provide <br />for development. <br />Blesener pointed out thaC when lots are cleared for development, a lot of <br />what is removed are dead or scrub Crees. Weisman reported that this is a <br />part of an o]d growth forest and provides animal habitat. He was <br />concerned with Che displacement of animals as well as the killing of <br />animals during the construction process. Weisman again encouraged the <br />City to stop buckthorn removal. <br />The City Administrator noted the efforts of other agencies in buckthorn <br />removal and the fact Chat buckthorn chokes out other growth and habitat. <br />The Administrator noted buckthorn removal efforts in Gervais Mill Park <br />and the fact that the Watershed had replanted this area establishing habitat <br />via native species. <br />ADJOURN Mr. Keis introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RRSOLUTION NO. 2006-5-114 -ADJOURNING <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Allan. <br />Ayes (3). <br />Nays (0).
