MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 10, 2006
Savage each with five or six eggs. Huot pointed out that if these birds are
not rounded up this year, the numbers will be much greater next year.
Blesener read a letter from another Savage Lake resident in support of the
round up.
Allan pointed out that the City has tried other methods for managing the
goose population, but they have not worked. Allan agreed that the geese
were an important animal, but noted that there are public health issues,
aside from avian flu, that come with an overpopulation. Additionally, the
City has been working toward becoming a more walkable community, acrd
there are issues for the senior citizens in the area of the Market Place in
using the sidewalk system. Allan noted that the City will never achieve a
100% rate for rounding up geese.
Blesener stated that he received another complaint from a resident about
Che geese taking over yards and impacting the ability for children to use
the backyard area.
Smith suggested the use of fencing to control the geese. Cooper noted that
the type of fencing used can impact other animals, and noted that any
mitigation methods could have impacts on other species.
There was no one else present wishing to comment on this matte
Upon motion by Allan, seconded by Keis, the public hearing was closed.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2006-5-I08 - AUTHORIZING A GOOSE
MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR 2006 SIMILAR TO PAST
PRACTICE, AND INDICATING THAT ROUND LAKE MAYBE
EXEMPTED FROM THE ROUND UP FOR 2006 BASED ON THF,
NUMBERS AT THIS SITE AS WELL AS DR. COOPER'S
RECOMMENDATION
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Allan.
Ayes (3).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
CABLE TV Cor Wilson, Executive Director of the North Suburban Cable Commission
ISSUES and the North Suburban Access Corporation, appeared before the Council
to provide an update and pending Federal legislation Chat could impact the
local cable franchising process.
