ORDINANCE NO. 122 AN ORDINANCE • •a DING THE LITTLE CANALA CODE BY ADDING A NEW CHAPTER 1801, 'w • IN: TO LOW LANDS, MARSHES, WETLANDS AND LANDS AE"TING LAKES AND WATERCOURSES, CONTROLLING D=;ELOPMENT OF SUCH LANDS AND PROVIDING FOR ISSU&rCE OF PERMITS THEREFORE. THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE CANADA DOES HEREET ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS- Section 1. That the Municipal Code of Little Canada is hereby amended by adding a new Chapter 1801, relating to the control of development of low lands, marshes, wet lands and lands abutting la_s and watercourses, to read as follows: "1801. LOW LANDS, WETLANDS AND MARSHES. 1801.010. DECLARATION OF POLICY. The City Cc_ncil of Little Canada has determined that it is in the public interest to prevent irreparable harm to valuable natural resources by encouraging a coordinated land and water management program of those areas within the City c _ ch comprise low lands, wet lands, marshes and all lands adjacent to lakes a=d watercourses. The specific intent of this Ordinance is as follows: (a) To minimize health hazards by protecting surface and ground waters from pollution by providin_ proper drainage. (b) To encourage the type of land development which will have the least adverse effect on the natural flow of flood water and at the same time protect life atd property. (c) To encourage land uses which lead to the ;reservation of marshes and natural vegetation in those areas where such conditions are an important factor is the maintenance of constant water flow. (d) To utilize the ponding concept and other methods to minimize fast run off of surface waters from deveL3ped areas and to minimize the introduction of pollutional materials from those areas into the natural waterways, ditches and lakes. (e) To prevent the obstructing of the free f ":sw of water in the streams and ditches. . %t.
