The City
then hired Midwest Planning and Research to develop this plan.
Midwest Planning and Research began by a tactical study of the City.
They interviewed various City residents including Councilpeople,
and members of the Concerned Citizens Group. Midwest Planning then
did a planning inventory of the City which included studying the
social, economic and physical aspects of Little Canada. Their third
step was to draft a Comprehensive Plan which was first drafted in
May of 1978. The next step involved holding public hearings in order
to get citizen input for the City's Comprehensive Plan. Based upon
the input received at these public hearings, the Comprehensive Plan
was revised.
The Comprehensive Plan was then reviewed by the Planning Commission.
On October 19, 1978 the Planning Commission held a special meeting
at which time they voted on the Comprehensive Plan and made recommendations
to the City Council on the various recommendations made by Midwest
Planning and Research in the Comprehensive Plan.
The next step is to refer Little Canada's Comprehensive Plan to local
adjoining City governments, but before this is done, Midwest Planning
would like the City Council's recommendations on the Comprehensive Plan.
After Council's endorsement of the Plan, Midwest Planning will begin
looking at the City's various zoning ordinances.
