The following section should be added to the Community facilities Plan.
SEWER AND WATER
As both the original sewer and water systems were designed to accomodate
substantial growth and expansion, no significant problems are forseen in absorbing
the projected future household growth.
The City is entirely served by sanitary sewer at this time. In addition the Little
Canada /Shoreview Interceptor should be completed in Little Canada near the end
of 1978.
The Little Canada Comprehensive Sewer Plan which was done in 1976 indicated that
the current sanitary sewer system was designed to a capacity which would serve a
population of approximately 18,000. The saturation population for Little Canada
(see appendix) is approximately 14,500 while the Metropolitan Council population
projection for Little Canada is 12,500 by the year 2000. Based upon those figures,
the current system appears to be adequate.
The system is currently in good condition with little or no evidence of inflow or
infiltration. Although the lift station on Edgerton Street may need improvement
in the future, this facility now belongs to the Metropolitan Waste Control
Commission and would be their responsibility.
Little Canada has recently experienced problems regarding the existing water
system. However, the soon to be completed water system improvements should
bring the system to a design capacity capable of serving 14,000 residents. If the
population were to exceed this capacity, the City would have to consider further
improvements such as an additional storage tank. However, as 14,500 is projected
to be the saturation point for Little Canada based upon maximum altimate land use,
it is highly unlikely that the community will reach that point.
The following replaces the Governmental Building section:
GOVERNMENTAL BUILDINGS
The existing City offices which were completed in 1974 are considered to be
adequate for future needs. However, should the City at some time in the future
require more space, the possibility of renting or aquiring the old Little Canada
School building across from the Fire Department.
Police protection is currently provided by the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department.
As this has been determined to be the most cost effective method of providing
police protection to the community, there is no need to plan for related facilities
at this time.
19
