110 East County Road B -2
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
August 14, 1980
Xr. Fay Hanson, Mayor
City of Little Canada
699 LaBore Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Dear Mr. Hanson:
We are disappointed in the Council action last night, August 13, 1980,
which denied our request for a zoning change in order to build a triplex
on our lot on Jackson Street.
With 050 of our money invested in the rezoning request I feel that we
not only deserved, but had every right to expect the following:
1. Notification of the - Planning Commission
with our rezoning request on the agenda
2. A copy of the :lanner's recomnendation
meeting in order to have time to study
meeting on August 6,
for discussion.
prior to the above
the proposals.
We did not receive consideration on either of the above items. I found
out about the Planning Commission meeting from a friend two days after the
meeting. Our copy of the Planner's recommendations arrived in the mail on
Saturday, August 9, which was three days after the meeting.
Mr. Bom^r Deslauries, our neighbor, was not opposed to the rezoning. The
concern shown for his property being wedged between two multiple dwellings
cane as a surprise. Until his recent disability, 1r. Deslauries had
operated a sewer, cesspool, firewood and waterproofing business out of his
hone on Jackson Street since it was constructed in the rid 1960's. The
equipment associated with such activity was not only an eyesore, but hardly
compatible with residential zoning. Our complaint to the City Council
brought about t ^e action noted in the attached newspaper clipping. This
action was taken without a hearing and without notice to us in any form.
As a result, we have this huge metal building next to our property, and as
of a week ago, a backhoe and dump truck were still parked outside. In
addition to this storage shed and equipment, his chicken and /or pheasant
coop is not exactly what one would look for in a truly single family resi-
dential area.
One of the Council members expressed surprise that a residence existed
between the lot requested for rezoning and the Oaknont Condiminiums. We
feel that if you and the Council members were acquainted with the area in
question, you would find it quite different from what you imagined or
envisioned from reading the Planner's report.
4
