When at any time a proposed developer or
business owner desires to expand, a fire suppression system would be
required. The requirements are as follows:
1. Automatic sprinklers must be installed and maintained in
operable condition,
2. Group B -2 retail, warehouse, or manufacturing areas with
2,000 or more gross square feet.
3. Building Officials, in concurrence with their Fire Chiefs
may accept alternate systems (an alternate source would be
water tank and chemical) which have fire protection
capabilities equivalent to systems for on- premise fire
suppression systems.
The provisions set forth in Chapter 1300.1150, Minnesota State
Building Code, Fire Suppression Systems "Appendix E ", are intended to
alleviate increasing demands for additional fire suppression
resources such as a full time fire department, and to insure an
environment of safety for the occupants of the building. A plan
review would be required for each applicant or future additions to
their buildings with the appropriate sections of the code to
alleviate any misfortunes to their business and other
responsibilities. The plan review will consist of the Minnesota
State Building Code and the Codes and Ordinances that have been
adopted by the City of Little Canada.
I am enclosing a list of sprinkled buildings since the adoption of
"Appendix E ". These business owners have helped make the City of
Little Canada a place where people can work and create their business
and achieve an environment of safety.
JP:bj
Enc:
page -5-
