MINUTES
Planning Commission
June 11, 1987
Little
Canada
Elementary
School CUP
(Cont.)
Rusch
Conditional
Use Permit
The Planner noted that the building would be 65 feet from the road
right -of -way.
Herkenhoff asked if the School District considered placing the building
on the south.
Borg reported that they had, but it was a little more feasible to
place the building on the north of the school. However, Borg felt
that it would be feasible to place the temporary classroom on the
south.
Kathy Glanzer, 2805 Noel Drive, stated that she was opposed to the
temporary classroom being located on the north of the school as it
would detract from the neighborhood and felt it was better located
on the south.
Timmons stated that she was proud of this area, which is a hub of
summer activity and felt the classroom should be located on the south.
Davison felt that if the building were located on the north, parents
would be parking on Eli Road to pick up their children, and with the
building on the south the parking lot will be used for this purpose.
Mr. Herkenhoff recommended approval of the conditional use permit for
temporary portable classroom at the Little Canada Elementary School
conditioned on the classroom being located on the south side of the
school, subject to the recommendations of the City Planner as contained
in his June 9, 1987 report, subject to the classroom being a new
structure and that the School District submit a picture of the
classroom to the Council when Council considers the request."
Motion seconded by Schweizer.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
Mr. Theran Rusch, 2731 Lakeshore Avenue, appeared before the Commission
requesting a conditional use permit for building relocation of a garage
and a variance request for the sideyard setback of this garage.
Rusch would like to locate the garage 5 feet from the sideyard of
his property as close to the south as possible.
Fred Rusch reported that the garage is 20 feet by 38 feet and is only
a few years old. Rusch reported that there is a berm in the backyard
which he does not want to disturb.
Timmons stated that it appears the only reason for the variance
request is that Rusch wants the garage 5 feet closer to the south
property line, and pointed out that if the garage were smaller, the
request would probably not be made.
Page 4
