MINUTES
Planning Commission
June 11, 1987
Rezoning The Planner noted that the building expansion proposal cannot be
St. John's processed until the zoning of the property is conforming. The
Credit Union Planner stated that the rezoning request seems to be appropriate.
(Cont.)
Mrs. Timmons recommended approval of the rezoning of the St. John's
Credit Union property from B -3 to RB due to the fact that the
property use is conforming under RB zoning.
Motion seconded by Herkenhoff.
Motion carried 5 - 0.
Little Mr. Paul Borg, representing the School District, appeared before the
Canada Council requesting a conditional use permit for a temporary portable
Elementary classroom at the Little Canada Elementary School.
School
CUP Borg explained the the classroom will be used by the School in its
extended day care program.
Borg also explained the proposed addition to the Little Canada Elementary
School and the District's wish to locate the classroom on the north
side of the building as the thought is that building materials for
the addition will be brought in along the south of the building.
Borg explained that sewer and water will be available for the classroom
and that the State is requiring a covered corridor from the classroom
to the school building.
Lorraine Pelton, 433 Eli Road, opposed the location of the temporary
classroom on the north side of the building as she felt it would
detract from the neighborhood. Pelton pointed out that she has
been previously denied a 5 foot variance in order to divide her
property, as the City felt her proposal would spoil the appearance
of the neighborhood. Pelton was also concerned with traffic and
stated that she did not consider the temporary building to be an improve-
ment to the neighborhood.
Timmons questioned that building materials for the proposed addition
would be brought in from the south rather than from the north.
Herkenhoff asked when the addition to the school would be begun.
Mr. Borg did not know.
Timmons stated that she would like to see some reasons why the
temporary classroom needed to be located on the north side of the
School and pointed out the likelihood of the building remaining
for two years. Timmons pointed out the amount of land the school
has to the south and felt the temporary building should be located
on the south unless there was good reason to locate it on the north.
Page 3
