ENERGY <br />Objectives <br />1. Ensure that Little Canada residents continue to have safe, reliable energy services <br />to meet their needs. <br />2. The City shall take the lead in encouraging energy conservation in public <br />buildings. <br />3, Encourage community residents to undertake a program of personal energy savings <br />habits H their homes and in their every day activities. <br />4. Consider alternative styles of development, such as solar heated buildings or <br />earth sheltered structures, to obtain long -term energy savings. <br />5. Plan for and encourage development which facilitates energy resource conserva- <br />tion, yet maintains compatibility and relationships of uses. <br />Pol icies <br />. Due to rising costs of renewable energy and projected declines in the production <br />of natural gas, oil, and uranium, the City shall actively promote the use of <br />alternative energy sources for residences and community facilities. <br />2. The City shall consider revising and use regulations applied to areas of new and <br />existing developments to protect solar access to south walls and roof tops. <br />3. The City shall investigate the possibility of retrofitting public buildings to more <br />energy- efficient heating and cooling systems. <br />4. Encourage reduction of energy consumption in commercial and residential buildings. <br />5. Develop and institute a program for distributing information on governmental energy <br />conservation programs and helpful ideas on personal energy conservation methods. <br />6. Encourage energy conservation in the maintenance and repair of dwelling units. <br />7. Encourage use of alternative energy forms in new construction through special <br />provisions in the zoning ordinance. <br />8. The City shall consider making revisions to zoning regulations that will protect <br />solar and wind access while accommodating earth - sheltered construction types. <br />9. New development will be encouraged not to establish convenants that would restrict <br />the development and use of active and /or passive solar energy systems. <br />A -5 <br />.L5 <br />
