Stan Turner, News Director
March 2, 1981
Page 2
4. The Met Council proposes to meter the lakes to approximate charges
to the suburbs. Yet these meters cannot do this accurately as they
will only measure the outflow and not the inflow from the various
municipalities, and are basically a waste of the public's money.
Rather than turn this letter into a treatise, I will get to the basic point.
We have an issue here which has the potential to increase drastically
monetary costs to thousands of Metro area residents. I have been of the
opinion that one of the responsibilities of the news media is to inform.
Yet, to this point I have seen no mention of this issue on your station.
It is not some esoteric government function that has no effect on anyone.
It can have a large impact in itself and in the principle it establishes -
of a City not being responsible for its past actions.
Since the decision of the Metropolitan Council is not yet set in stone, I
would hope that you would air the issues involved in this matter so the
public can be informed as to what is occurring. I and other suburban
officials stand ready to discuss the matter.
Sincerely,
Barryfl.. Evdns
City nager
BRE:vl
