Owasso Blvd. X X
*(T) indicates a Tee intersection.
As you can see, the number of left turn lanes are pretty much balanced between
both communities.
We have attempted to take care of the largest number of left turners by pro-
viding the turn lanes at the public intersections. Even with a two -way left
turn lane concept, we would still provide exclusive left turn lanes at the
major intersections. Therefore, there would not be much room left on this
street for two -way left turn striping.
We appreciate the concerns of the businesses in which access from one direc-
tion requires a left turn across a left turn lane and a through lane. We do
expect traffic to move much more safely and smoothly, however, than before
thi. project was constructed. Hopefully, those businesses will profit from
this improved roadway.
Since the roadway cross - section and striping are a significant change from the
old two -lane road that everyone was familiar with, it will take a period of
time for people to become accustomed to the change. In other words, people
will "learn how to drive it." We have tried to simplify that as much as pos-
sible by providing a predictable striping scheme.
As with all of our projects, we will monitor the effectiveness of the project.
If we observe specific operational problems or an unexpected increase in acci-
dents, we will consider making any changes that appear necessary.
I hope this letter adequately explains our decision about the left turn strip-
ing. Again, thank you for expressing the businesses' concerns. If you have
any further questions in this matter, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Michael L.Robinson
District Traffic Studies
NOV ?;' N,E,2
(Try r7
